Shahid Abdulla is the principal and a founding partner of Arshad Shahid Abdulla (Pvt.) Ltd. The design practice was formed with his brother Arshad Abdulla in 1979. The duo came together as design team in 1975 when they worked with Pyarali A. Merali.
Shahid Abdulla, in 1990, along with a group of concerned individuals, founded the Indus Valley School of Art and Architecture. It was his initiative to relocate the 100 year old Nusserwanjee building from its premises in Kharadar to the new school in Clifton thereby saving it from demolition and preserving it as part of our cultural heritage. He was part of the initial teaching faculty of the school for many years and also served as a member of the Board of Governors and the Executive Committee.
Shahid Abdulla is a strong activist and advocate of urban regeneration in Karachi and is a forceful respected voice of the city. He is the spearhead of many cultural activisms in the city and winner of many prestigious national Awards. He is actively involved with the design processes at ASA, giving his valued guidance not only to a vast range of projects but also to nurturing the new and fresh inductees into the profession with his experience, wit, and wisdom.
DANISH AZAR ZUBY
Danish Zuby is the senior most qualified interior designer in Pakistan. He was born in Lahore in October 1950 to renowned sculptor and painter, Ozzir Zuby. Danish completed his Bachelors from Habib Institute of Technology, Nawabshah and proceeded to Bahrain to set up a design firm with Arab partnership. After which he traveled to England to pursue his design education.
On his return in 1980, he worked on the Karachi Sheraton Hotel project before joining ASA. Zuby was head of ASA’s Interior Design Department until 1989, at which time he founded his own practice in Karachi. His firm has grown to become one of the most sought after design studios in the region. He has to his credit more than 250 successfully completed projects in Pakistan, ranging from five star hotels, restaurants, airports, shops & boutiques, offices, and residences.
Additionally he is a founding member of Shehri: Citizen for Better Environment, and Illumination Society of Pakistan. He was an Executive Committee Member of Indus Valley School of Art & Architecture and is responsible for the establishment of Department of Interior Design at the School – he remained the Department Head until 2007.
Naheed Mashooqullah is an architect and interior designer with her own private practice Naheed Mashooqullah Studio for Architecture based in Karachi. Prior to this she worked with Yasmeen Lari on restoration projects and at Arcop as a Project Architect.
In her projects, Mashooqullah incorporates the clients’ brief for functionality but exhibits, through the aesthetic, honesty with a hint of flair. She has many distinguished, award-winning projects ranging from Atrium Cinemas to the restaurant Fuchsia, demonstrating the flexibility and scope of her skill. In 2008 she was awarded the Ladies Fund Women Entrepreneurship Award and an Honorary Mention in the IAP Awards, Residential Category, 2009.
She is certified in Interior Design from the Kelly Hoppen Design School, London, and in Garden Design from KLC Institute, London. She is also a Lifetime Member of the Indian Institute of Interior Designers and the Pakistan Council of Architects and Town Planners
ZAIN UL ABEDIN
Zain Ul Abedin is an architect and a teaching professional at the Metropolitan Academy of Art and Design, Islamabad. Over the 30 years of his career, Abedin has gained diverse experience of teaching and practicing interior design, architecture and urban design in Pakistan and abroad.
During his tenure at COMSATS Institute of Information Technology, Islamabad, he maintained the position of Dean of Architecture and Design. He was an advisor for the Museums Association of Pakistan and is currently an advisor, and incharge, of COMSIAN Consulting at CIIT Active Research in built heritage and museums in Pakistan.
Abedin received his Masters from Oxford Brookes University where he specialized in Methods of Urban Design and Tourism Business Strategy
SUHAIL A. ABBASI
Suhail A. Abbasi is a founder and Principal Architect of Suhail & Fawad Abbasi Architects, with a design philosophy of simplicity and functionality. In his projects he incorporates sustainable and vernacular building techniques and designs through which he attempts to meet the modern day requirements of a building, while also experimenting with the design aesthetic.
He is a Fellow of the Institute of Architects Pakistan and served as the Vice President of the Institute from 2011 to 2013; he is also a Member of Pakistan Council of Architects & Town Planners (PCATP) and the Advisory Board of Archi Times. He has been affiliated with a number of architectural institutes in the capacity of a jury member and educator.
His projects have won many accolades including the Design Excellence Awards, the Distinguished Achievement Award, and Design Recognition Award from the Institute of Architects, Pakistan.
Yawar Jilani has been in practice for over 32 years. He is a partner at Arcop, a firm he helped establish with Architect Mahboob Khan in 1987.
He received his early training under the tutelage of Architect Ramesh Khosla. He and his firm were the recipients of the ADA Awards 2019, and the Arcasia Gold Medal Awards 2012 and 2014. Their projects, The Pearl Mosque and the Al-Azhar Garden were shortlisted for the 7th and 10th cycles of the Aga Khan Awards.
Through their architecture they aspire to develop a dialogue with Context, People, and Culture.
TARIQ A. QAISER
Tariq A. Qaiser is a Karachi-based practicing architect, the CEO of the firm TAQ Associates Architecture & Interior Design Pvt. (Ltd.), and the Principal Architect for the Indus Hospital Karachi. He is a lifetime member of the Pakistan Council of Architects and Town Planners, a member of the Institute of Architects Pakistan, and a founding member of the Pakistan Institute of Interior Design.
His affiliations to educational institutions have been important to his career, having been on the Board of Studies of the Indus Valley School of Art and Architecture, a Studio Instructor for 5th year Architecture students for several years, and a faculty member at the Harvard School of Public Health.
Qaiser is a founding member of PANI (People and Nature Initiative) a NGO committed to cleaning water, and setting up of water treatment plants in Pakistan. He is also a painter and photographer who has exhibited his work in a variety of shows across Karachi. He was the recipient of Excellence in Architecture 2009, Award for Architectural Interiors, awarded by the Institute of Architects Pakistan.
HABIB FIDA ALI
Born in 1936, the late Habib Fida Ali carved out his own place in the architectural world. Following his graduation from the Architectural Association School of Architecture, London, UK, he worked for William Perry, until, in 1965, he chose to establish his own practice as the sole proprietor.
Fida Ali was a member of the Association of Royal Institute of British Architects (ARIBA) and Pakistan Council of Architects and Town Planners (PCATP.) Throughout his career, he traveled extensively and taught in Indus Valley School of Art and Architecture and NED University.
His work was recognized by the Institute of Architects Pakistan (IAP) who honored him with the lifetime achievement award. His involvement in projects extending from strategic planning, through concept design and construction administration, was a testament to his commitment to design, quality, innovation, and delivery.
NAYYAR ALI DADA
JEHANGIR KHAN SHERPAO
Jahangir Khan Sherpao, a renowned architect who has contributed to the architectural fraternity and the country at large, was the President of Architects’ Regional Council Asia (ARCASIA) from 2017-2018. During his tenure, multiple Heritage Roundtables were held by ARCASIA and V4AF (Visegrad 4, Architectural Foundaiton) both locally and internationally.
Prior to this, he served as the President of Institute of Architects, Pakistan (IAP) and as ARCASIA Vice-President Zone A in 2015-2016 concurrently.
He received his professional degrees in Architecture, and later a professional Master’s degree in City & Regional Planning at the Illinois Institute of Technology at Chicago.
